The privilege to collaborate with the dream weavers at Disney is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any designer. For the design innovation team at Bonds, it’s an ongoing partnership that continues to fuel creative ideas and produce one incredible collection after another. With the latest range – The Jungle Book – Bonds designer April Yap and her colleagues were given the chance to work on some of the most loved Disney character art and turn it into a new form of art – the art of comfy!
Tell us a little a bit about how you approached The Jungle Book range. Did it differ in any way from our previous Disney ranges?
Our approach to this range was different because instead of it being mainly character based we looked to the scenery for inspiration. We couldn’t overlook the beautiful lush jungle landscapes that were in the movie. We wanted to honour the world that was created around these well-loved characters.
What was your aim when creating this range?
We wanted to create a fun range for all ages. It was important to us that the range evoked the feeling of The Jungle Book, but retained a true Bonds DNA with our signature fluoro colours and print handwriting. Each print was designed to tell the story of each character.
The character art in this range is so vivid. How did you know which characters to include?
We wanted them to be recognisable and stand out from the jungle landscape. We also thought the main characters would resonate with the Bonds customer.
What pieces do you think customers will love the most from the range?
The prints in this range are super vibrant and eye-catching so we think all the pieces will stand out. Each piece can be worn with a matching print head-to-toe, or if you’re brave you can clash them up, which is really fun!
Who is your favourite character from The Jungle Book and why?
We love Baloo because he has a really positive attitude and it was fun telling his story through the prints.
The Jungle Book by Bonds kids, baby and women’s range is available to shop from Wednesday 28th June. Sign up to Bonds & Me to be the first to hear when it lands!
