When we heard Bonds Blogger, Paulie Eaborn (@mrs_paulie_) and her brood were heading to Stradbroke Island, QLD for their next family vacay, we wanted to know EVERYTHING. From why they chose Straddie and what’s on their to-do list, to what tips they have for planning a family holiday with three little ones.
What is it about Stradbroke Island that makes it such a family-friendly holiday destination?
I think the fact that you don’t have to travel too far to reach this beautiful island is the game changer for us. Travelling far with three kids can be quite draining and when going to Straddie we just jump on the barge which takes us to our beautiful destination in less than an hour. The kids just love it!
What are you and the kids looking forward to most on your holiday?
We would all agree on the answer being the beach! My hubby and my oldest son are super excited about surfing, the two small ones love playing in the sand and I just enjoy soaking up the sun and relaxing while watching them all. We also love to go to Straddie because we get to camp in our awesome Bell Canvas tent – it’s our home away from home and we love spending time here.
What tips do you have for planning a family holiday?
KEEP IT SIMPLE! I’ve had my fair share of over-planned holidays where you try to fit too much in and it all ends up in tears and tantrums. These days we don’t plan much at all. We just take it day-by-day and choose a certain thing or two that we want to do while we are holidaying. Usually, it takes the stress off all of us and we can just enjoy being away.
What are some of your favourite Stradbroke Island spots to visit?
We always do the Gorge Walk at the point lookout, it’s such a beautiful scene and it’s just perfect for the kids to be able to do. It’s a place where we always spot kangaroos and dolphins. We also love the Oceanic Gelatti bar where we get homemade Italian ice cream.
What essentials would we find in your summer suitcase?
I have a summer outfit in all shades and colours. But my go-to outfit is a pair of denim cut-offs, a loose basic tee, and my Birkenstock sandals. It’s so easy to mix and match and you don’t have to worry about bringing too much unnecessary baggage. A nice sunscreen, my Rayban’s and some Turkish towels are also always packed.
What do you look for when shopping for swimwear for the family?
Because we are such a big family, and I always have to make sure everyone is dressed, I need it to be nice and easy and able to mixed and matched. I tend to have the same outfits for all the boys and just mix up the colours so they are wearing different shirts or pants, but are still all in the same style. That way it makes it easy for me to keep an eye on them on the beach too, I just watch out for the same patterned swimsuits and I know where all my ducklings are.
