BONDS CLASSICS: Q&A WITH MAKEUP ARTIST JODIE BOLAND
Posted in: people

Perth-born Jodie Boland carved a name for herself in the beauty industry from very early on. Having studied abroad at the London School of Fashion, Jodie moved to New York City where she assisted master artists Dick Page and Val Garland. She’s worked her magic on numerous celebs and her artistry has appeared in magazines like GQ, Elle, Vogue, InStyle, Marie Claire and Harper’s Bazaar (amongst many others)! Now Jodie lends her talents to Bonds for their Classics campaign, and dishes on this season’s hottest makeup trends captured during the shoot…

--Q&A--

1. You worked onset for the Bonds Classics Campaign - what was the key makeup looks for the day?

The key makeup look for the Bonds Classics Campaign was fresh, sexy, beautiful glowing skin. Highlighting a subtle bronze on the girls and showing their own confidence and individuality!

2. What do you love about working with BONDS?

Coming from Australia and to have this opportunity to work with BONDS is such an honour, as it’s such a well respected and iconic Australian brand. They always keep it real, playful and fun.

3. What is your favourite Bonds item?

Well I have to honestly say EVERYTHING from BONDS I LOVE. I’ve been wearing the Hipster Bikini my whole life! I love the work out tops and pants as well. I make my mother send me over packages of Bonds during the year, as well as every time I go back to Australia for Christmas I stock up. Bonds now ships internationally which is super exciting! I won’t have to bring back so many undies for my Aussie friends here in NYC.

4. Now that you live in NYC, was it fun to work on a line up of Australian talent on the set of the BONDS shoot?

After living in NYC for so many years, it was so lovely to be asked to work with the amazing line up of super talented girls and one very lucky guy! Aussies really are such unique people! I'm so proud to be Australian and to be affiliated with this group of talent.

5. What do you miss most about Australia?

Australia will always be home for me. What I really miss about Australia would be the exuberant energy of the people, the sun and the beaches. One special thing I especially miss is the positive outlook that everyone has on life. And of course my family, friends and my hometown Perth.

6. What are some key makeup trends for next season?

A key make up trend for next season is fresh, glowing skin! We are seeing a reverb of 60’s and 70’s inspirations. Graphic liners and a pop of color on the lips are huge for next season. Orange, tangerine, coral and stained reds for the lips are coming back. Also the smokey, sexy, sultry bronzed eye, emphasising more on the bottom and inner area of the eye is big for next season too.

7. What are your tips for creating a beautiful natural makeup look?

1. Make sure that your skin is always prepped before applying any foundation. Invest in quality skin care and drink lots of water; hydrate from the inside out!

2. Remember that less is always more.  Blend your foundation well and down on to the neck, pairing it with a highlighter on the top of your cheek bones and around your temples. Slightly contour your cheekbones and add a healthy flush of color by applying a cream blush to the apples of the cheeks. Make sure your eyelashes are curled, to open your eyes up and add a sweep of volumizing mascara to your lashes.

3. Finish off your look with a pop of colour, using a subtle lipstick stain to the lips in a natural colour, soft pink or just add a little lip balm using my favourite Aussie product paw paw ointment.
