We’re “dusting” off 2017 and kicking off the new year by announcing that footy superstar Dustin Martin, has joined the Bonds family as our newest men’s ambassador. We are beyond thrilled to have Dusty on board to be the face of our latest men’s undie range. He was a good sport when it came to getting his kit off for the cameras (no easy feat, believe us!) and his authentic, funny and down-to-earth attitude is a great fit for us! We sat down between takes to chat with the man himself about everything from his childhood to his newfound cheer squad (e.g. the entire population of Melbourne!)
What was your childhood like growing up in Castlemaine?
Country living is really so relaxed. We had to make our own fun, spending lots of time outside, riding bikes, etc. It was a great upbringing.
Did you always want to play footy?
Yep! Ever since I was five or six-years-old when Mum and Dad gave me my first footy I’ve wanted to play football.
Who did you look up to as a kid? Did you have any sporting heroes?
Sounds obvious, but I looked up to footy players such as St Kilda’s Robert Harvey. Eminem was also another inspiration of mine.
How did leaving school at an early age impact you and your career?
While it was hard leaving school at 14, I wouldn’t change it. I went to Sydney for a year and then back to Melbourne and got heavily into footy playing for a local club, which I just loved.
It’s been a massive year for you, why do you think you’ve been such a hit especially with kids?
I don’t know really, maybe it’s the haircut and my tattoos. Believe me when I say I’m just a normal guy.
We hear you’re a bit of a Bonds fan. Do you own a pair of lucky undies?
I’ve been wearing Bonds since I was a young bloke. I have a couple of pairs of Bonds and definitely have one pair – a black pair – that are my match day lucky undies. I whip them out for every game and they’ve definitely helped!
What do some of your tattoos mean? Would you ever get a Bonds tatt? *laughs*
My favourite would have to be my knuckle tatts – Live Life. It’s all about enjoying yourself and a reminder not to take yourself too seriously. As for a Bonds tatt, maybe on my waistband! 😉
Which out of your medals means the most to you and why?
My premiership medal means the most to me by far. It is the ultimate prize, which we worked so hard for as a team. I can’t describe how it felt, it was so surreal for the club to finally win after such a long time without a premiership.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
I like to always cook the same meal – honey mustard chicken.
Following your premiership win, do you now get free haircuts for life?
I really hope so!
Trunks or briefs?
T-shirt or tank?
Mohawk or mullet?
Tracksuit or birthday suit?
Twitter or Instagram?
Dustin or Dusty?
Dustin. Although my friends call me Duzzy.
