ROAD TRIPPING WITH NIC DAVIDSON
Posted in: people

Wanderlust is in Nic Davidson's blood. As a self-confessed business geek and fitness fanatic, it's a combination of these passions that has taken him far and wide. Co-founder of Matcha Maiden, Matcha Mylkbar and creative agency, Bushy Creative, Nic is used to being on the road, meeting with clients and sniffing out new business opportunities. We caught up with Nic mid-road trip across Los Angeles to find out how (and where) he likes to spend his summer holidays, and his tips for staying fit when the sun comes out.

What do you love most about summer?

The long days! Nothing beats long and hot summer days; the hardest bit about winter for me is how it’s dark when I get up and go to bed. Bring on summer!

Are you a beach boy or pool guy?

Oh this really depends. I love the surf and grew up at the beach every day during summer, but if I’m relaxing, reading a book or doing some work in the sun I’d have to say the pool for sure!

Where is your favourite swimming spot?

My favourite swimming spot would be Bondi, it’s such a rad beach to have so close to the city. Melbourne lacks in that department.

Describe your go-to summer style.

Well, if you follow my Instagram you can see I generally follow warm weather where possible and I tend to cop a lot of funny comments from my friends for my tendency to rarely wear a shirt. So I guess my summer style would be board shorts or gym shorts and maybe something lightweight on top!

Do you have any favourite summer holiday locations?

This is a tough one, I try to travel every couple of months so narrowing it down is hard as everywhere has something special about it! My favourite summer holiday location in Australia would have to be the Byron Bay area because of all the small beaches like Broken Head that surround it; and overseas I love Zanzibar and Boracay; two very beautiful parts of the world.

Which songs are always on your summer playlist?

Oh, you can’t go wrong with some 70’s with Creedence Clearwater Revival in the sun! This year I’m all about Gary Clark Jr (Bright Lights) and a bit of Khalid (Saved).

Do you have any fond childhood memories of summer?

Growing up in a very sporty family in rural Tasmania, summers were spent either at the beach or playing sport. It was always being active and running around. Plenty of amazing summers on the sand in Port Sorell in North West Tasmania!

What do you look for in a good board short?

I’m pretty fussy with board shorts! I’m pretty active so they need not be too short and be quite tough. As I travel a lot they must dry quick and most importantly have pockets! I struggle without pockets.

Do you change up your exercise regime during summer? If so, how?

Generally, I don’t, however, we try and train outdoors more with the dog and I tend to train earlier in the morning as the sun’s out.

What tips do you have for staying fit during summer?

Fitness for me is always about routine and consistency. Just find what works for you and try and be consistent and I certainly recommend getting outdoors! We live in such a great country, there are so many beaches and parks! Also trading the beer for a water occasionally is a good one, I find I would have a beer with my friends in the sun out of habit rather than actually wanting one!
