Kween of the typographic scene, Bianca Cash, is back at Bonds to bring us something srsly spesh. Having worked on our 100^th birthday mural last year, the Melbourne designer has been busy doing what she does best – making gorgeous things with words. This time around, we invited her to create a bespoke and beautiful print for Mother’s Day, which you can download here for FREE! Speaking of Mother’s Day, we caught up with the talented typographer to get her two cents on what this day means to her and her family.

What’s the inspiration behind your Mother’s Day piece for Bonds?

I spent a while thinking of different words and illustrations and ended up coming up with a few options. I went with the final because it's all true. I have a lot of love for my mum and I'm sure a lot of people have the same feels for their mums too.

What was your process for creating this piece? Did you start it by hand or on the computer?

I started by hand, using a water brush and ink. I then scanned it into Photoshop so I could lay it out in A4 format. All my ink work is by hand and usually involves lots of paper and trials.

Where do you usually look for inspo? 

A lot of different places. Anything from books and weekends filled with brunches, exhibitions and sunshine. Pinterest is great for collecting imagery for colour references, type, photography, design, and style. But I find it’s important to not spend too much time looking at what has been creating by others and focus on what you want to create.

What’s a typical day at work like for you?

At the moment it starts with brushing my teeth. I hate not having my teeth brushed, so that's usually one of the first things I do haha! Then brekky and a cup of tea while I look over emails/social media. Posting orders, errands and then usually later in the day I will begin creating for current projects. I find I'm more creative at night - so that's when I usually have ink sessions.

What does Mother’s Day mean to you and your family? 

Celebrating my mama with my family - my dad and three sisters. Spoiling her with cards and gifts and quality time.

How will you be celebrating Mother’s Day this year? 

Brunch or lunch with the whole family. Food and family - that's usually the way we celebrate anything!

What’s one piece of advice your mum gave you while growing up?

There are so many! My mum is a really strong, generous, kind woman. I’ve definitely been shown by her how important it is to be these things too.
