Two words that say so much about our brand new Bonds Originals underwear range. Crafted from super luxe-to-touch fabric, the new collection of women’s and men’s crops, undies, trunks and more aims to redefine soft, reimagine shape and reinvent comfort.
If the name ‘Otto’ rings any bells for you it’s probably because the Otto family are one of a handful of acting dynasties amongst the Australia film industry who are still going strong. Daughter of the legendary Barry Otto (Strictly Ballroom, The Dressmaker) and half-sister of Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings, Homeland), Gracie Otto is an award-winning director in her own right. Her short films have been screened internationally and have won her a swag of awards over recent years. She has also worked with the likes of Elle Fanning, Emilia Clarke, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Lara Worthington, and now she is working with us!
To help capture our new Bonds Originals range against the vivid landscape and unique beauty of a location like Coober Pedy, we enlisted Gracie’s masterful directorial skills. From the beginning, she got the cinematic vision of a Mad Max-meets-modern-day-life concept and injected her own flavour in bringing this new range of redefined undie icons to life. We sat down to chat with Gracie about what attracted her to this project and what it was like to film in the unforgiving heat of the Australian desert.
Hot spot is definitely the word to describe some of Coober Pedy’s local attractions. If you’ve never been to Coober Pedy, the self-described opal capital of the world that sits halfway between Adelaide and Alice Springs, the one thing you need to know is that it gets hot, like really hot. On a 50-degree day, this 100-year mining town shuts down and its townspeople hunker down in their underground abodes.
That’s right. The people of Coober Pedy live underground.
Known as dugouts, underground homes are built into the side of red dirt mounds, only visible by the pipes which act as air vents poking up from the rocky terrain. It’s believed that around 65 percent of the town’s residents reside underground. And after being in Coober Pedy on an almost-40 degree day it’s easy to see why. The dugouts offer a cold hit of relief, like walking into an air-conditioned movie theatre.
She made her acting debut in the long-awaited sequel Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, now Natasha Liu Bordizzo is fronting our brand new Bonds Originals campaign. The multi-talented Aussie actor and martial arts enthusiast, who has worked alongside the likes of Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron, leads a visually striking campaign that features a new collection of modern and minimalist underwear for men and women that is addictively soft.
We spoke to the stunning beauty, who gets a kick out of professional kicking, about being discovered via Instagram and what it means to be an original.
